Top Ten Reasons to Join our Sunset Sails!
Set sail aboard one of our larger yachts skippered by a professional OCSC instructor and enjoy a relaxing night out on the Bay. This sail is open to all skill levels and is followed by food, refreshments and good company in our club room.
1. You’re Sailing!
Is there really anything much better than sailing? We don’t think so. Groceries, laundry, extra work at the office… or simply messing about on boats?
2. Breaking Up the Work Week
Studies show that breaking up the work week is good for the brain and the body. Whether it’s breaking the couch/desk routine, or stimulating/relaxing your brain in a fresh way, sailing can offer the remedy. Thursday morning, when your boss gives you too much work, you can just smile back and say “prepare to tack.”
3. The Perfect Amount of Wind
Sailors from all over the world come to the SF Bay for the world-class summer afternoon and evening breeze. To not sail in the bay area, is like living in the mountains and not skiing in winter. ‘Not’ is no longer an option.
4. Sail as a Community
The only thing better than sailing off into the sunset, is sailing into the sunset with an entire fleet! Whether you’re comparing foul weather gear outfits, sailtrim, or boat speed, it’s an exhilarating moment to see so many sailors at work in harmony with each other and with nature.
5. The Most Beautiful Sunsets Imaginable
Insert favorite sunset quote here.
Here is ours: “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” – Carl R. Rogers
6. San Francisco City Lights
The SF Bay transforms into a dark patch at night surrounded by shimmering lights and a city that becomes a twinkling pop-up book. When the sun sets and the lights come on, Avatar comes to mind.
Music will greet you upon your return to the clubroom as you enjoy the bay views of the water you just called home. Often, the music is done the old fashioned way, with live instruments and humans playing them!
8. Meet Great Sailors
How often do you get to be in a room filled with sailors who have raced to Hawaii, lived on a boat in the Caribbean, or just completed their first sailing lesson? The stories, energy, and company of sailors is unmatched. Just ask them!
9. Food and Drink
What better way to end an evening sail than with great food and drink. Join us in our bay view clubroom, and choose wisely between hearty chili, savory clam chowder, or scrumptious salad! Did we mention the free beer and wine?
10. It's Affordable
Thirty-six years ago we invented the sailing club concept, focusing on making the best of sailing accessible and affordable. Our sunset sails allow one to get out sailing for as little as $20 as a member, and $75 as a non member.
