Coastal Cleanup Day – September 25th, 2010

The International Coastal Cleanup Day is right around the corner on Sept 25th. This is a great opportunity to team-up with others to help clean up the Bay. Our neighbors at the Berkeley Yacht Club have kindly extended an invitation for all OCSC members and friends to join them…

Coastal Cleanup Day, Sat Sept. 25

Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event in California and is a part of the International Coastal Cleanup, which takes place in 100 countries and 42 U.S. states. Last year, more than 80,000 volunteers worked together to collect more than 1.3 million pounds of trash and recyclables from California waterways and shorelines.

Please help be a part of this monumental event! It’s a wonderful opportunity to both show community support and to care for our shared marine environment. Perhaps most importantly, if you have kids or have friends or neighbors with kids, invite them for a hands-on education about the impact and prevention of marine debris. Even if you have mobility concerns, you can still contribute by recording collection data for your group or helping at a support table.

What to bring: a bucket or reusable bag, gardening-type gloves, sturdy shoes, sun protection, and layered clothing.

When & where:

0800  Meet at Berkeley Yacht Club
