February 26 | 7-9 PM
The world of long-distance yacht racing has been abuzz with sensational efforts and record-setting accomplishments. The Vendee Globe saw its youngest winner set a new record. In the same race a 52 year old competitor from Briton was the first person to finish the race 3 times AND the first person to sail non-stop around the globe in both directions. Just this past week, the New York to San Francisco record was shattered by an international crew aboard a modified Volvo Ocean Racing 70.
How does this relate to the average sailing enthusiast you ask? How can one ever hope to experience the thrill of racing across oceans on state-of-the-art racing yachts? Are these sailing feats within reach of someone like you, or me?
The answer is an un-equivocal “YES!” and Clipper Round the World is how you can do it! This quote from the Clipper website says it all: “The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the only event of its type. Anyone, even if they have never steeped on a boat before, can join the adventure and circumnavigate the world in an eleven month-long marathon.” An OCSC grad completed 2 legs of a previous race, and a current OCSC BK grad is in training for several legs of the 2013-2014 race.
On Tuesday, February 26th from 7 – 9 PM, the head of recruitment for Clipper Round the World will talk about how you can be part of this amazing adventure. Come and hear about what it’s like to round the great capes of South Africa and South America, or cross the North Pacific Ocean! You’ll also learn about the all new Clipper 70s; amazing boats that until now were the sole domain of Volvo and Vendee Globe professionals.
This presentation is free for all, but if you decide to race the experience will be priceless!!
